Fighting for a better Tennessee.

MEET LAURA

For 22 years, Dr. Laura Andreson has been an OB/GYN and had the privilege of caring for thousands of women and their families.

Franklin, Tennessee has been Laura's home for the past six years, and she's built her practice here.

In June 2022, when the Dobbs decision was announced, Laura's world abruptly changed. Suddenly, she was at risk of breaking the law by simply providing professional, necessary medical care to her patients.

Laura felt called to make a change. She found a network and a voice; speaking out, talking to legislators, and attending committee meetings at the Capitol.

Despite the fact that a majority of Tennesseans voiced their need to have control over their own reproductive rights, Laura realized our legislators are not listening.

Our legislators also continue to disregard Tennesseans' desperate pleas for help regarding common sense gun laws, the need for strong support for our public schools, and the rights of the LGBTQ to have access to comprehensive medical care and an expectation of privacy.

With the love and support of her husband, her two sons, and two very spoiled Labrador Retrievers, Laura decided the time has come to truly do everything she can to make change in our state.

It has been Laura's honor to serve her patients in her capacity as an OB/GYN for many years, and she hopes to serve her neighbors, constituents and all Tennesseans, as our next State Representative for House District 63.

ISSUES

Fighting for a better Tennessee for all of us.

 Reproductive Rights

Laura witnessed the defeat of bills intended to protect IVF and contraception during this year's legislative session in Tennessee. These bills sought to safeguard access to medical treatments in a time when reproductive freedoms are being eroded. Laura repeatedly heard legislators argue that if there isn't a law against something, there's no need to protect it. Although she might have believed this before the overturning of Roe v. Wade, she no longer accepts it as fact.

Laura is running for office to restore good faith and evidence-based medicine in our state. She aims to combat medical disinformation and fear that is being spread in communities and to heal the rift that has developed between patients and their trusted physicians.

She is determined to uphold every woman's right to make decisions about her own body and health. Laura understands that medicine, particularly obstetrics, is not black and white. There are often difficult situations, some of which are critical to survival. Yet, current laws in our state do not provide exceptions for incest, rape, or fatal fetal conditions.

Laura is also committed to addressing the alarmingly high maternal morbidity and mortality rates in Tennessee, which are among the highest in the United States. These rates are likely to worsen due to the exodus of obstetricians from TN or their decision not to practice here, driven by the extreme abortion ban.

 Common Sense Gun Laws

Advocating for increased safety in schools is important to Laura. Her oldest son was in kindergarten when the tragedy at Sandy Hook occurred. Since then, not a single day has passed without her fearing for his safety at school. Her son was the first to call her on the morning of the Covenant school shooting, and learning of the lives lost that day deeply saddened her. Laura believes that while people should have the right to own guns, there must be greater safety and balance in the laws governing their ownership.

 Support Public Schools

Laura is committed to protecting public schools. Her children attend a public school where they have enjoyed their experience and formed lifelong friendships. She believes that most Tennesseans do not support a voucher system that could undermine and weaken public education. Instead, Laura advocates for better funding and higher salaries for teachers, emphasizing the importance of investing in education as a means to nurture our state's most valuable assets: our children.

 LGBTQ Equality & Equity

Laura will stand for the rights of members of the LGBTQ community to have equal access to medical care and privacy. She believes that our state government should not interfere in the private relationship between a patient and their physician.
